Week 5 Empirical Research Article
Since I liked the discover search through ebscohost for the week 4 assignment I decided to use that again. Instead of just typing my usual keywords, effects of domestic violence on children, i also added qualitative study to the keyword search. There were so may articles to choose from, which was awesome. Usually when I use the general databases in the leathery library I have a hard time finding an article that actually relates to my topic as a whole and have to try multiple phrases to find anything somewhat relavent. But, with discover, they were all a perfect match. It makes it so much easier finding sources. I'm so glad to have tried this finally, it would have really come in handy before. From the article I chose, I learned that even babies can be effected by domestic violence. The mothers do not form the normal bond with their baby because she is too busy trying to protect her baby from the abuse. This can cause attachement issues that can lead to psychological issues later.

It looks like your research is coming along nicely. I am encouraged to read that your are finding it easier to locate articles in the library. Your topic can be difficult to discuss but there is a real need to make others aware of the information. I'm glad that you found so much information. I'll have to try the qualitative study on my next search. It breaks my heart when I hear of babies who are affected by domestic violence. Do you think this is common or is it mainly older children who suffer from domestic violence?
ReplyDeleteAngela, I agree sometimes the leathby library can be more difficult to search for quality research. It is definitely very time consuming if you are truly applying and using the CRAAP test the way that it was intended to be used. I will have to try out the discover search as well. Your topic interested me being that in a way it can definitely correlate to my research topic, which is dealing with challenging behaviors in the classroom. Your research that you gathered can have a huge factor to my topic especially being that attachment issues leads to psychological and then that can be tied into the challenging behaviors that can be triggered while at school.
